How Do You Get Started?
Back in 2015, I decided to jump into freelancing. I had good plans laid out. I had thought of brilliant ideas, I did market surveys, I purchased a domain name, built this website, launched a YouTube channel, and many other things.
Two and a half years down the road, I decided to work full-time. What happened to those big goals? Why was I not successful in my plans? With all humility I would have to admit that I lacked execution. I lacked a commitment to action. And because of that, many of the things I planned stayed on paper. In 2020, I had another chance to freelance and with the Covid-19 Pandemic, I had a lot more time than I had. So I decided to retrace my steps and identify what went wrong. And this is what I discovered. I started planning and I completed the planning stage but I never really got out of my head and execute my plans. And there were many reasons and I hope to share them all with you some time. But because I didn’t execute, I didn’t have any chances of success. There is a reason why the head of a company is always called ‘CEO’. He is the chief executive officer. He is not the chief planning officer. Let me say that again. The head of a company, and the one who greatly determines the success of the company, is the chief executive officer. As a CEO, his main tasks include establishing the company's vision, setting a plan to reach that vision, and making sure the plan is execute, and executed well. Having a vision, planning and executing - these are the three critical legs for success. But many of us are stuck with our vision boards and exemplary plans, not many of us go far into the execution. I didn't back in 2015. And what I realized is taking that one step forward is crucial for success. Just one step forward towards your goal, that one step which will be part of your many steps towards your goal. Let's start with just one step, and that's easy. |
